With just minutes to go before the NBA Trade Deadline at 3 PM EST, the Phoenix Suns acquired point guard Elfrid Payton from the Orlando Magic in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick via Memphis, according to multiple sources.
The second-round pick the Suns sent the Magic was originally acquired in the Troy Daniels trade that brought the sharpshooter to Phoenix in late September.
As part of the deal, Orlando will receive the second-most favorable 2018 second-round pick from either Charlotte, Memphis, or Miami.
Payton now joins a Suns roster that boasts Tyler Ulis and 10-day contract signee Josh Gray as the only true point guards on the roster. Brandon Knight is out for the season with a torn ACL, while Isaiah Canaan is out with a fractured ankle.
During his time in Orlando, Payton holds averages of 11.1 points, 6.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 281 games for the Magic since being drafted 10th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Elfrid Payton is expected to be available for the Suns when they face the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.
