The Connecticut Sun was the surprise of the league last year, with head coach Curt Miller and the squad really coming into their own and proving that they did indeed draft better than just about anyone else the last couple of seasons. After suffering an early exit in the playoffs last year, expectations are high for the team this season. Miller also General Manager duties this offseason, which means he has some very tough decisions to make when it comes to setting the roster for the coming season. Let's take a look at a player by player breakdown of the team as it stands heading into pre-season play.

Jasmine Thomas

Thomas had a career high in points per game last season. As a player who excels on both ends of the floor, she will continue to lead this team into the coming season.

Courtney Williams

Williams started 28 games last season for the Sun, and she fits into their fast-paced transition offense quite well.

Alex Bentley

Only three players on the team right now have more experience than Bentley, and she will be a strong option off the bench. She can also serve as a starter if someone goes down with an injury for an extended period of time.

Shekinna Stricklen 

One of the team's veterans, Stricklen is one of the best 3-point shooters in the league.

Lexie Brown

Selected ninth in this year's draft out of Duke, Lexie Brown is one of the only rookies likely to make the team.

Rachel Banham

Banham has had her ups and downs, but she can contribute to this season's team.

Alyssa Thomas

Thomas, a four-year vet out of Maryland, is one of the best forwards in the game.

Chiney Ogwumike

Ogwumike has battled through injuries, missing all of last year, but she is planning on coming back better than ever this season.

Jessica January 

Drafted by the Sun last year, January failed to make the roster and moved overseas. Given the players ahead of her on the depth chart, she will have to do something special to make the team this year.

Betnijah Laney

Laney played her first two seasons in Chicago, but she faces a tough challenge to make the roster in Connecticut.

Nikki Greene 

The Former Penn State and Los Angeles Sparks forward hasn't played in the WNBA since 2015.

Brionna Jones

A tough call for Jones coming into her second season. She has a mountain to climb to make this team but may just do so.

Kayla Pedersen

Another veteran on this young team, Pedersen's experience likely won't outweigh her overall performance.

Morgan Tuck

A solid backup guard from UConn who has plenty of upside and potential.

Jonquel Jones

The breakout star of last season, Jones comes into the season with the opportunity to improve as one of the best players in the league.

Leticia Romero

The Spanish national out of Florida State seems much more likely to play overseas than on the Sun this season.

Cayla George

Traded from the Mercury in the offseason, George should provide good support off the bench.

As a note: Recently acquired forward Bria Holmes will sit out this season due to her pregnancy.
