Grading the Chicago Bulls 2018 draft of Wendell Carter Jr. at the seventh pick and Chandler Hutchison with the 22nd pick.

Let me just start off by saying that I would give the Bulls draft a B grade. This was a pretty solid draft by the Bulls, in my opinion. My very unrealistic long-shot dream was that they would somehow be able to trade up for Doncic.

Nevertheless, I am happy with the team’s decision to take Wendell Carter Jr. with the seventh pick and Chandler Hutchison with the 22nd.

Once it was reported that Michael Porter Jr. could fall to the 14th pick due to his medical, I was just hoping the Bulls would not risk their pick on him and instead refocus their attention on Bamba or Carter Jr. With Bamba being taken by the Magic one spot ahead at the 6th pick, I was happy to get Carter Jr. and I think he will fit in well with this roster.

Wendell Carter Jr.

Wendell Carter Jr. is a 6-10 power forward/center from Duke. In his one year in the NCAA, he averaged 13.5 ppg, 9.1 rpg, and 2.1 bpg.

He can rebound, defend, and even step out to the three and knock down some shots.

The main thing to look for in Carter’s future with the Bulls will be his defensive ability as he is expected to be a solid rim protector and a good rebounder. According to DraftExpress, Carter’s game is somewhat comparable to that of Al Horford.

The Bulls definitely needed a promising young center to add to this roster and the hope is that he will fit well next Lauri Markkanen and provide some needed rebounding and rim protection down low.

Chandler Hutchison

I don’t know much about Hutchison but on paper h,e is a very Bulls pick, given that he is a 22 year old senior player.

In his senior year at Boise State, Hutchison averaged 20 ppg, 3.5 apg, 7.7 rpg, and 1.5 spg.

With a 7-1 wingspan, my hope is that he develops into a solid defender. At 6-7 he may be the Bulls starting small forward for the 2018-19 season and possibly beyond.
