Washington Wizards
Thursday, 27 October 2016 at 07:30 PM ET Home
The Hawks will open the season at home against the Washington Wizards. The series last season was split 2-2 between the teams. However, each game was a high scoring affair for both sides as the Hawks averaged 109 PPG and the Wiz averaged 106.5. This will be the first game of the season for each team and is also an inter-conference match-up. Both teams will be dealing with plenty of new variables. Scott Brooks will be coaching the Wizards for the first time in a regular-season game since he was hired this offseason. Washington's bench has also drastically changed after the loss of several key role players such as Alan Anderson and Jared Dudley. Their biggest offseason acquisition Ian Mahinmi will be sidelined 4-6 weeks after a recent knee surgery. Star player John Wall, who averaged 20 pts on 40% shooting in the series last season, is also recovering from offseason knee surgery but is expected to play around 30 minutes. For the Hawks, Tiago Splitter will be inactive.
This game will be available to watch on Fox Sports Southeast and to listen on 9.29 FM "The Game" in Atlanta.
Philadelphia 76ers
Saturday, 29 October 2016 at 12:30 PM ET Away
The Hawks second game of the season will be away at Philadelphia. The 76ers opened their season at home on Wednesday, October 26. They lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a close game. Sixers prized rookie Joel Embiid, playing in his first season since being drafted in 2014, scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 22 minutes. He showed an impressive array of offensive and defensive versatility. He was also instrumental in firing up the home crowd. Although still injured and lacking in some talent, these Sixers won't be the quite the easy punching bag of seasons past. The Hawks swept the series 2-0 last season while averaging an absurd 126 PPG.
For Atlantans, this game will be available to watch on Fox Sports Southeast and to listen to on 9.29 FM "The Game."
