Week 3 Summary (Last Week)
A good week 3 for the Raptors, which featured three games, and three wins. Along with some good showings from the Raps’, we saw some god-like performances from Demar, who led the team in scoring in all three games. On top of some fantastic performances from a range of the usual characters, Lucas Nogueira had a fantastic game against the Knicks. He altered shots at the rim for all 25 of his minutes, and swatted away 5 of them. Oh yeah, and we also got a peek at these downright gorgeous throwback jerseys and a court to boot.
Cleveland Cavaliers

For the first time this season, the Raptors will be playing a team for the second time. The only difference, is that this game is in Cleveland. The last game was on October 28th, and it was truly nothing short of a nail-biter. The Cavs came out on top, 94-91, despite Derozan’s game-high 32. If the Raptors are going to have a shot this time, they’re going to need more scoring from elsewhere in the lineup. Lowry had 17, JV had 10 (and 17 rebounds!), but despite that, no other Raptor scored in double digits. I expect this game to be nothing short of epic, but the Cavs are just too strong, especially at home. If this was a rematch at the ACC, maybe it’d be a different story.

Golden State Warriors

You couldn’t craft a more difficult back-to-back if you tried. As soon as the Raptors are finished in Cleveland, they’ll hop on a plane and get back to Toronto to face Golden State. Like every team in the league, the Raps’ didn’t have much luck against the Dubs’ last year, going 0-2. What the Raptors did do, however, was give them two extremely competitive games. Golden State took both games by a combined 8 point margin. In those two games, Curry had 37 and 44. Obviously, stopping Curry has to be a priority, but what about that new small forward they acquired?
Undoubtedly, this is going to be a ridiculously difficult, yet equally entertaining game. With the ACC crowd backing this Raptors squad, look for this high scoring affair to go right down to the wire, with Kevin Durant missing at the buzzer for the Raptors win.

Denver Nuggets

Like Cleveland, the Raptors will be facing another familiar foe in Denver. The second, and last game of their season series will be played in Denver, where we all know that the altitude will be an issue. Toronto took down the Nuggets two weeks ago, in what was a relatively ugly game, in which I was unfortunate enough to go see in person.
A key takeaway from this Denver team, is that you can’t key in on one guy. Every single guy on this team is a scoring threat, in my opinion, and can be difficult to pinpoint what guy is going to be taking the majority of his team’s shots. That’s a benefit of not having a superstar, but it can also be a vice. For this reason, I see Demar going absolutely berserk at the Pepsi Center, and taking over this game down the stretch.

Sacramento Kings

I know I shouldn’t, but I legitimately fear the Kings. It seems like year in, and year out they always have the Raptors number. Sacramento took the first of two meetings by a score of 96-91. Despite not having Valanciunas for this game, Boogie had 22 on 7 of 21 shooting, and they still won. Rudy “that guy” Gay and Derozan both tied for a game-high 23, in what has been the worst game of the season for Raptors fans.
Look for a redemption game in Sacramento. The Raps’ are going to come out angry, hungry and gunning to take down the Kings and get the last laugh in the season series. Obviously, this is easier said than done. If the Raptors can keep Boogie in check and neutralize Gay with some defensive rotations of Carroll, Powell and Ross, this should be a defiant win for the Raps.
