As free agency continues, the Spurs reportedly came to an agreement with Euroleague guard Brandon Paul.
The folks down in Champaign, Illinois were smiling Thursday afternoon. After some impressive performances with the Cleveland Cavalier's Summer League team, the Spurs came to an agreement with Euroleague guard Brandon Paul. The guard who made a name for himself at the University of Illinois was able to make a strong enough impression on Spurs' brass that they pulled the trigger. This deal was initally reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The projected deal is reported to be guaranteed
Throughout his time with Cleveland during Summer League, he averaged 14.3 points per game, 2.3 assists per game, and grabbed 5.0 rebounds per game while playing 25.3 minutes per game according to NBA Stats. He also shot an impressive 47.% from the field throughout the three games he appeared in.
Last year around this time, Paul signed a multi-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he was never able to make much of an impact and was waived by the team on October 24th. He spent time playing for Philadelphia's G-League affiliate, the Delaware 87'ers. Hopefully this time around, Paul is able to make an impact in the association. Paul also spent some time in Turkey last season playing for Anadolu Efes after he was cut by the team.
Heading into the upcoming season, Paul is not expected to have the biggest role on the team. It will be interesting to see whether or not Paul has a chance to make an impact, or if he spends some time in Austin with the Spurs' G-League affiliate.
Good luck Brandon.
