Fizdale, 43, went 7-12 in 19 games with the Grizzlies this past season before being dismissed by the franchise that gave him his first head coaching job in the league.

He reportedly butted heads with big man Marc Gasol, 33, on numerous occasions during his tenure. Gasol publicly voiced his displeasure this past season, after a benching late in an early-season matchup, instilling the feeling of not being valued. In a loss against the Brooklyn Nets, Fizdale elected to not play his All-Star center, ultimately prompting the team to choose between their second-year head coach and franchise player. Nearly 18 hours later, Fizdale found himself out of a job.

Guard Mike Conley, 30, suffered an Achilles injury early in the season, ultimately missing the remainder of the year to recover.

The Grizzlies failed to reach the postseason for the first time in six seasons, finishing 14th in the Western Conference, while employing their fourth coach, interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, within that timeframe.

With the recent dismissals of Jeff Hornacek in New York and Steve Clifford in Charlotte, the head coaching market has inevitably opened up.

During his time in Memphis, Fizdale went 50-51 with oft-injured teams.  He is expected to land a head coaching job soon. The University of San Diego alum spent 13 seasons as an assistant and associate head coach with the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, and Miami Heat.
