Why the Magic should Trade for Goran Dragic

Should the Magic start looking for a new point guard, as in, Goran Dragic?

Currently, at 12-16, the Magic are at the "kind of good, but kind of not" area. For a team that has playoff hopes, things need to change and improve before it's too late. However, Orlando is in the market for a scorer, which is something they need a lot. Their defense is solid, but that offense needs some fuel for sure. Goran Dragic of the Miami Heat, can drive Orlando to the right direction.

The Heat aren't actively looking to shop Dragic, but there have been rumors floating around that a trade could happen. If the Magic are smart, they'd jump on the chance to get Dragic. Not only because he would help the team, but because other trade prospects just aren't good for the Magic. Rudy Gay is a free agent coming up next summer, Monta Ellis isn't what he used to be, Brandon Knight is having a rough season, and Lou Williams will likely be kept by the Lakers.

Now, trade scenario wise, here's one that works for both teams. The trade involves Orlando shipping Vucevic, Payton, and Hezonja for Miami's Dragic, Winslow, and Reed.

How this works for Orlando is simple. Offense. Dragic is averaging 18.5 points, 6.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Those are near All-Star numbers that would boost Orlando in their offense and wins in general. Winslow is a young, solid forward who could backup Aaron Gordon, which would spark the bench. Also, Willie Reed would be a good backup center for Bismack Biyombo.

For the Heat, this gives Nikola Vucevic a chance to be a stretch four. Guessing Erik Spoelstra doesn't bench Vucevic, this lets Vucevic be able to shoot more and pair up nicely with Whiteside. Add the fact he's still rather young, and a double-double monster. Elfrid Payton and Mario Hezonja are two players that also have a lot of potential with friendly contracts.

Overall, while there are no hard facts this trade will happen, it's just a possible thought that could benefit both teams. Especially Orlando in this time of need. Since it's past December 15th (when free agents are allowed to be traded), Orlando must be active on those phones to start trade shopping. There are a decent amount of options out there. Whether they play it safe for a small trade, or risk it all for a big one, the Magic need to shake things up regardless. And trading for Dragic, would be a good choice nonetheless.
