Oklahoma City Thunder Game Previews: November 28 - December 4

After going 2-2 in their last week of NBA action and finishing with an overall record of 10-8, the Oklahoma City Thunder get to enjoy one of their lighter weeks during the NBA regular season. First off the Thunder head to the Big Apple to face off against the Madison Square Garden on Monday night. After that, they head back home for a game against John Wall and the Washington Wizards. Finally, after a three-day rest, the Thunder are back at it at home again against Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans.

New York Knicks

The Oklahoma City Thunder begin their week in an early tilt against Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks (8-8 Overall, 7-2 Home) in New York City. This is the first time the Thunder have played against the Knicks this year and will not face them again until February 15 in Oklahoma City. For New York, the real point of attack is at both of their forward positions with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. Anthony has averaged 23.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this season and Porzingis has added in 20.9 points, 7.3 rebound,s and 1.3 blocks as well. The combination of Anthony and Porzingis will provide defensive matchup problems for Oklahoma City and a committee of Victor Oladipo and Andre Roberson will try to contain Anthony while rookie Domantas Sabonis will get the bid of defending Porzingis.

Some say that stars shine brightest on the biggest stage and Madison Square Garden may be one of the biggest stages in basketball for Russell Westbrook to further cement his status as an MVP candidate. Westbrook will face off against Derrick Rose, a former MVP himself and the youngest ever to win the award. The battle between the two guards will be an intense one to say the least, as both have similar skill sets and the winner in the matchup will likely decide the winner of the game as well.

Projected Starting Lineups:

New York Knicks:

  • PG - Derrick Rose
  • SG - Courtney Lee
  • SF - Carmelo Anthony
  • PF - Kristaps Porzingis
  • C - Joakim Noah
  • Injuries  - Lance Thomas (Ankle, Doubtful)

Oklahoma City Thunder:

  • SF - Andre Roberson
  • PF - Domantas Sabonis
  • C - Steven Adams
  • Injuries - Cameron Payne (Foot, Out Indefinitely)

Washington Wizards

After a day's rest, the Oklahoma City Thunder return home to face off against John Wall and the Washington Wizards (5-10 Overall, 1-5 Road). This is the first time the Thunder will play the Wizards this season with the next meeting being in Washington on February 13. The main attraction for this game will be the battle between Russell Westbrook and Wizards point guard John Wall. Wall has further cemented himself as the second best point guard, behind NBA-champion Kyrie Irving, with averages of 23.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 8.7 assists. Wall and Westbrook both are willing passers and can easily rack up the assist total. The battle between both guards will likely decide the victor between both teams.

Wizards head coach Scott Brooks is also making his return to Oklahoma City for the first time after being fired in 2015, the first time the Thunder missed the playoffs while he was head coach. Brooks and the Wizards have been struggling out of the gate so far to start this season mostly due to the fact that the team has been hit with a slew of injuries. Brooks will be looking for revenge against Oklahoma City and to right the ship for the season as well.

Projected Starting Lineups:

Washington Wizards:

  • PG - John Wall
  • SG - Bradley Beal
  • SF - Otto Porter Jr.
  • PF - Markieff Morris
  • C - Marcin Gortat
  • Injuries  - Danuel House (Wrist, Doubtful)

Oklahoma City Thunder:

  • PG - Russell Westbrook

  • PF - Domantas Sabonis
  • C - Steven Adams
  • Injuries - Cameron Payne (Foot, Out Indefinitely)

New Orleans Pelicans

Sunday, 4 December 2016 at 07:00 PM ET Home

Finally, the Oklahoma City Thunder wrap up their week at home against Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans (6-12 Overall, 2-7 Road). Much like the Washington Wizards the Pelicans have been hit hard by the injury bug early on, losing key players like Jrue Holiday for a big part of the beginning of the season and Tyreke Evans who has yet to touch the floor as well. This has put all the pressure on superstar forward Anthony Davis and he has risen to the occasion with averages of 31.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.8 blocks. Davis can do it all for the Pelicans but his lack of a real supporting cast has been what is holding him back. Thunder rookie Domantas Sabonis and possibly big man Steven Adams will have the task with containing Davis as the Thunder look to cruise to an easy win.

Projected Starting Lineups:

New Orleans Pelicans:

  • PG - Tim Frazier
  • SG - E'Twaun Moore
  • SF - Solomon Hill
  • PF - Anthony Davis
  • C - Omer Asik
  • Injuries  - Dante Cunningham (Knee, Out Indefinitely), Tyreke Evans (Knee, Out Indefinitely), Quincy Pondexter (Knee, Out Indefinitely)

Oklahoma City Thunder:

  • PG - Russell Westbrook
  • SG - Victor Oladipo
  • SF - Andre Roberson
  • PF - Domantas Sabonis
  • C - Steven Adams
  • Injuries - Cameron Payne (Foot, Out Indefinitely)
