The New York Knicks have been dysfunctional and disappointing, to say the least, these last few seasons. But there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel with Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Willy Hernangomez and Frank Ntilikina leading the way. If the Knicks are looking to rebuild as they claim they are, then they should fully invest in the tank.

Kristaps Porzingis is coming off a season where he had per game averages of 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2 blocks. He is definitely looking like the Knicks' go to star in this new era. But Kristaps and coach Jeff Hornacek have had some problems, where Hornacek said, to put it lightly, for Porzingis to stop playing soft. As a result of this, 7'3 big man decided to skip out on exit meetings when their season completed. It is yet to be seen if the Porzingis-Hornacek relationship will be rekindled but if it does or doesn't, Hornacek needs to replaced. He was the coach during the Phil Jackson constructed Knicks last season so now a new coach should be brought in for a fresh start and bring in a new team style that is up to date with the speed of today's NBA game. The triangle offense was a system that thrived in the 90s and early 2000s but it is not a system that can win games in this fast paced, 3-point shooting style. Also, the triangle does not cater to the players that the Knicks have today. A lot of those players are uptempo, run and gun shooters and need a coach that can construct a system that lets those players play to their talents.

Tim Hardaway Jr. is coming off a season where he posted per game averages of 14.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists on a .455 percentage, all career highs. He has made improvements across the board and after earning a big contract to rejoin the team that first drafted him, he's looking to keep improving and help bring the Knicks back to a playoff team. He had already started building chemistry with Carmelo Anthony and the rookie point guard, Frank Ntilikina. We don't know if Melo will be in a Knicks uniform by the time the season starts, but this right here shows that they are already trying to build up some type of chemistry. Also, this shows us some new footage of Ntilikina finally getting some run in after the injury he suffered shortly after draft day. He didn't play in the summer league as he was rehabbing so this is also a good sign of how good he is and his play style.

For the Knicks to move forward, they need to make a decision on Carmelo. As of right now, he is still a Knick and there is no sign that he will be traded yet. It would be smart for the Knicks to trade him but only for a good deal and not just throw him away for anything. The Houston Rockets are the team that Melo will waive his no trade clause for but the new management should try to convince him to join another team for the right price for both Melo and the Knicks. They still have Joakim Noah on contract and should look to get a deal to get rid of that salary. Then the space is clear to bring in more players and to start Willy Hernangomez who shown some good flashes last season. The Knicks won't win too many games next season and probably not the season after that, but a core of Ntilikina, Porzingis, Hardaway, and Hernangomez is a good start for a future.
