As much as I like Demarcus Cousins' ability to handle the ball and shoot from the perimeter for a guy his size, he needs to only limit that to when he needs to. Since being traded to New Orleans, he's often bringing the ball up the court in transition and setting the offense. This is good to see, as it's an example of his versatility as a playmaker, but he's better giving the ball to Rajon Rondo or Jrue Holiday and letting them run the sets. Playing alongside Anthony Davis and getting better acclimated to an up-and-down style of offense has caused him to transition his game outward. 

Last season after being traded from the Kings, Cousins' two-point attempts dropped by the three per game (15.5 to 12.6) while his three-point attempts went up by one per game (4.9 to 5.6). Of course, this was an effect of playing with Anthony Davis and having more developed talent around him - Davis alone was better than most of the Kings roster. But, he needs to score more around the rim which he is better at doing than consistently shooting from the perimeter. Against the likes of Clint Capela of the Houston Rockets, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and Pau Gasol of the San Antonio Spurs, Cousins should have a field day in the paint.

Cousins is a remarkable player whose skill set rivals the best in the league. Fortunately, the Pelicans were able to acquire him from the Sacramento Kings last February and pair him next to All-Star Anthony Davis for - hopefully - years to come. Having Davis next to Cousins has enabled him to expand his game even more. However his season should be defined by how he plays down in the post and not at the top of the key. The Pelicans need all that he brings to the table but need him to be an enforcer in the paint.
