The New Orleans Pelicans select PG Tony Carr (Penn State University).

With the 51st pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans selected PG Tony Carr from Penn State University.

Although this selection wasn't splashy nor was what Pelicans fans were clamoring for to fill an apparent gap at small forward, he is another developmental piece that Alvin Gentry can mold behind Jrue Holiday and E'twaun Moore. Carr is a very intriguing prospect measuring at 6'5" 205 lbs with long arms and a wiry frame. He fits today's prototypical guard who has the size to matchup against opposing perimeter players at either guard position. In addition, switch on wings when defenses break down.

Last season, he finished the season averaging 19.6 PPG, 5.6 APG and 4.9 RPG. On tape, Carr can get anywhere on the court. He has an excellent handle and knack for blowing by defenders. He's not afraid to attack the rim nor mix it up on the boards. He does have to work on his footwork and burst, but being drafted on a team that ranked 1st in pace last season should definitely help him in these areas. His form could use a little work as well.

The Pelicans drafted a gem late Thursday night.

He has the potential to make the opening day roster. Let's see how he performs in Summer League.
