With the Bucks' second summer league game on today, I figured I would write my first impressions of Rashad Vaughn, Malcolm Brogdon, and Thon Maker.
Thon Maker:
Maker was a pick that I originally didn't like at #10. I worried that the Bucks are trying to go too big and are sacrificing 3 point shooting to do so. Thon's performance on Friday changed my mind. His stats were 15 points and 13 rebounds, along with 2 blocks, and a plethora of dunks. His defense in the paint was solid, forcing players to pass out to the perimeter. He was also able to draw some fouls, however he did finish with 4 fouls on himself. This is almost expected though, considering that this is his first game at the NBA level.
Malcolm Brogdon:
Brogdon started off hot, scoring the first 5 points of the game for the Bucks. Malcolm had some nice moves, and ended with a stat line of 9/11/3. His 11 rebounds are the most surprising, and it's good to see considering the struggles the Bucks have had with rebounds. After his hot start he cooled down, only scoring 4 more points during the rest of the game. He finished at 4/11 shooting, and 1/3 from 3 point land. Brogdon was able to fill up the stat sheet with a near double double, however off paper he was nonexistent after the first few minutes.
Rashad Vaughn:
Oh boy. Rashad Vaughn lived up to my expectations of him, which are incredibly low. Vaughn finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. He also had 3 turnovers and was unable to get to the free throw line to get the easy points. Vaughn went 4-16 from the field, and went 1-8 from 3, which in a word is abysmal. The problem isn't that he missed so many, it's that he took so many. Vaughn's shot IQ was very worrying, although to be fair in the summer league everyone's shot IQ is off.
The 3 players above are the main focus since they will likely all be on the Bucks roster. A shout out goes to Terran Petteway, as he was the top scorer for Milwaukee with 16 points.
