Bucks Hire Jon Horst as GM

The Milwaukee Bucks have hired Jon Horst to be their new General Manager.

The Milwaukee Bucks' search for a new General Manager has come to an end.  The team has given the position to Jon Horst, who is currently the director of basketball operations for the team.

Horst will replace John Hammond, who left for Orlando.  The Bucks have been searching for a new GM since Hammond left, and candidates included current Assistant GM Justin Zanik, Arturas Karnisovas of the Denver Nuggets, and even Cleveland GM David Griffin.  ESPN reports that the Bucks could not come to an agreement with Zanik (who was considered the favorite for the position), and this is why the team hired Horst.

Jon Horst will inherit a young team on the rise.  The Bucks are coming off a tough series loss vs the Toronto Raptors, but as hard to swallow as the loss was, we did see flashes of greatness from the team.  This is something Horst has to maintain and improve on.  Giannis Antetokounmpo has the potential to be the best player in the NBA in a couple of years.  If Jabari Parker comes back and returns to form, he will be an All-Star.  Khris Middleton is a deadly shooter who opens up the floor for others to score. Thon Maker is a 7'1" center who can shoot threes, and Malcolm Brogdon is undoubtedly the Rookie of the Year.  There are players like Greg Monroe and Tony Snell who come off the bench and can provide a spark in the middle of a game.

Horst has been the director of basketball operations for the Bucks since 2008.  He has worked with John Hammond, so he has experience in things like player evaluation and the financial side of basketball.

I think it's good that the Bucks hired someone already in the organization.  Other GMs could potentially ruin the system the Bucks have in place, which is to build around the trio known as MAP (Middleton, Antetokounmpo, Parker).  Horst knows the system and has experience.  I have full confidence in him and this Bucks team to keep making strides towards greatness.
