Indiana Pacers Trade Rumors: Arron Afflalo

Sacramento Bee columnist Ailene Voisin tweeted Wednesday that the Pacers were interested in acquiring Sacramento Kings guard Arron Afflalo.

Another Indiana Pacers trade rumor has surfaced; this one lends itself to the "keeping Paul George" course of action.

Sacramento Bee columnist Ailene Voisin tweeted Wednesday that the Pacers were interested in acquiring Sacramento Kings guard Arron Afflalo. Voisin added the Kings' backcourt appeared crowded, presumably after Sacramento traded DeMarcus Cousins to New Orleans in exchange for a first-round pick and two guards, Buddy Hield and Tyreke Evans.

Afflalo could help the Pacers. His 3-point shooting percentage (39 percent) is better than that of any pure shooting guard Indiana currently has on its roster (C.J. Miles, who has played the two, is shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range, but Pacers coach Nate McMillan has been playing him as a small four off the bench lately).

A potential issue in attempting to acquire Afflalo is that the Pacers have the same problem the Kings have: a crowded backcourt that could stand a departure, especially as Indiana's shooting guards create roster redundancy in that they don't shoot particularly well and are ball-dominant. A guard-for-guard switch likely wouldn't be attractive to Sacramento. The Kings possibly could be looking for a big man after trading Cousins, and Al Jefferson's $10.3 million salary would be close enough to Afflalo's $12.5 million number. However, Sacramento might not be crazy about hanging onto Jefferson for two more seasons, and even if it were, Indiana might not want to create a hole at its backup center spot.

It's an intriguing possibility that could work for the Pacers. It's unclear how many more wins Afflalo would net Indiana, but he certainly would be an upgrade at shooting guard if the Pacers were to acquire him.
