Welcome to another edition of Deep League Relevant. This week we’re going to take a look at the waiver wire for some fantasy basketball players owned in 8% or less of Yahoo leagues, focusing on big men.

Davis Bertans (San Antonio Spurs, SF/PF)

Owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues.
3 games scheduled between Monday 30th January and Sunday 5th February.

Why is Davis worth adding?
Do you like bigs who can hit 3s and is efficient in both percentage categories? Because over the past week Bertans has averaged 11.5 PTS and 2.3 3PM on 60% FG shooting, while not missing a free-throw. While his lack of rebounding and minutes (only averaging 16 over his past 4 games) is a concern, the upside is there given how long Gasol is out for. Hopefully, he plays more minutes at C to gain C eligibility in Yahoo, which will be nice.

Donatas Motiejunas (New Orleans Pelicans, SF/PF/C)

Owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues.
3 games scheduled between Monday 30th January and Sunday 5th February.

Why is Donatas worth adding?
Talking about SF/PF players who have recently gained C eligibility, it looks like Donatas just earned his. It finally looks like Alvin Gentry has finally realized that he has a player on his roster who is perfectly suited to playing C in today’s NBA (Anthony Davis), meaning he no longer needs to give Asik minutes. Hopefully, this lasts because Donatas is one of the players taking Asik’s minutes. In the last 4 games, he has averaged 21 minutes and has put up 11 PTS, 4.8 REB, 1 3PM and 0.8 BLK on 69% FG. He’s deep league relevant so long as his minutes continue to exceed 20.

Patrick Patterson (Toronto Raptors, PF/C)

Owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues.
4 games scheduled between Monday 30th January and Sunday 5th February.

Why is Patrick worth adding?
Patterson has returned from another stretch of missed games, but this time he has managed to put 4 games into his legs in a row, which is an encouraging sign for us deep leaguers, and Toronto fans in general. He’s one of Casey’s favorites, especially when it comes to the fourth quarter, so expect some nice defensive numbers, along with 1-2 3PM coming from him so long as he remains healthy.

Spencer Dinwiddle (Brooklyn Nets, PG)

Owned in 1% of Yahoo Leagues
4 games scheduled between Monday 30th January and Sunday 5th February.

Why is Spencer worth adding?
Minutes are there for Spencer, with his only real competition at PG being Isaiah Whitehead (until Jeremy Lin returns from injury). He has played under 24 minutes once in his past 10 games, and in that game he played 23. Those minutes have jumped up to 28 over his past 4 games, where he has averaged 11.5 PTS, 3 REB, 3 AST and 1 3PM, all while shooting 55% from FG and 83% from FT. While his FG% may not be sustainable, his minutes are.

Arron Afflalo (Sacramento Kings, SG/SF)

Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues
3 games scheduled between Monday 30th January and Sunday 5th February.

Why is Arron worth adding?
Minutes - he’s playing a lot of them. Over the past week, he has averaged 33.5 minutes a game and has only played under 29 minutes once in his past 7 appearances, mainly because his long shot is falling. Over the past 7 days he has averaged 2.8 3PM, 12 PTS, and 2.3 AST, all while shooting 50% from FG. While he doesn’t have much upside, sometimes you need a stable pick, and Afflalo is as stable as somebody on the Kings roster not named Boogie can be.

Watch List Candidates

Players to add to your watch list to see how their situation plays out.

Anthony Tolliver (Sacramento Kings (SF/PF)

Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues
3 games scheduled between Monday 30th January and Sunday 5th February.

Why is Anthony worth watching?
We’ve seen this before from Tolliver, he’ll have a stretch of games where he gets minutes, helping stretch the floor for Boogie, and then Joerger decides to pull him out of the lineup. If Joerger decides to spot-start Tolliver then it’s worth streaming him in, which makes him a perfect watch list candidate.
