Welcome to another edition of Deep League Relevant. This week we’re going to take a look at the waiver wire for some fantasy basketball players owned in 7% or less of Yahoo leagues (with 3 of them having back-to-backs on Monday and Tuesday), as well a player to keep an eye on for the second half of the season.

Joe Ingles (Utah Jazz, SG/SF)

Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues.
4 games scheduled between Monday 23rd January and Sunday 29th January.

Why is Joe worth adding?
Joe has performed decently in the 3 games he has started for the injured Rodney Hood. While he’s not a high usage guy, and isn’t going to blow up for a 20+ point game anytime soon, he’s solid in the fantasy categories that you need to fill out your roster. In the past 3 games he has averaged 2.6 STL, 1.6 3PM, 5 AST and 3 REB, all while playing 34 minutes a game. He’s worth rostering while Hood is out, and is even worth keeping for a few games after Hood’s return, as they’re likely to ease him back into the rotation given his injury issues this season. Utah also has a B2B on Mon-Tue.

Quincy Acy (Brooklyn Nets, SF/PF)

Owned in 0% of Yahoo leagues.
4 games scheduled between Monday 23rd January and Sunday 29th January.

Why is Quincy worth adding?
Quincy wants to get paid, and he’s playing like it. The Nets signed Acy to a second 10-day contract on the 20th, and in the two games since then he has put up 14 PTS, 4 REB and 12 PTS, 8 REB games. The back-to-back double-digit scoring is nice, but not the norm. If you need a short-term boost in FG% and REB then Quincy is worth looking at.

Dejounte Murray (San Antonio Spurs, PG)

Owned in 6% of Yahoo leagues.
4 games scheduled between Monday 23rd January and Sunday 29th January.

Why is Dejounte worth adding?
Dejounte who? It looks like the Spurs have another late first-round draft steal on their roster. Murray has averaged 19 PTS, 4 AST and 1.3 3PM on an unsustainable 66% FG. Unfortunately, it’s not going to last as he’s spot-starting for the injured Tony Parker, but with the Spurs playing in a B2B on Mon-Tue you might be able to sneak in 2 more games before Tony returns.

Jason Smith (Washington Wizards, PF/C)

Owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues.
4 games scheduled between Monday 23rd January and Sunday 29th January.

Why is Jason worth adding?
Jason has been flirting with deep league relevancy all season, and his play last week has gotten him over the line. Over his past 3 games, he has averaged 11.6 PTS, 3.6 REB, 1 3PM and 1.3 BLK a game in a little over 20 minutes playing time. Washington has a B2B on Mon-Tue, so he’s a nice play if you need a head start in your weekly match-up.

Watch List Candidate

Somebody to keep an eye on for the second half of the season.

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (Philadelphia 76ers, SG/SF)

Owned in 0% of Yahoo leagues.
4 games scheduled between Monday 23rd January and Sunday 29th January.

Why is Timothe worth watching?
I’ve been a fan of Timothe coming out of the draft, and he’s in a great fantasy basketball situation for a rookie. He’s got good defensive instincts, which is one of the reasons why he's now getting a steady intake of minutes, and is somebody to add to your watch list to see how Brett Brown uses him alongside Simmons, when he eventually makes his debut.
