Today it was announced that the Pistons have hired Ed Stefanski as a senior advisor. He will oversee and lead the reshaping of the front office and coaching staff.

The Detroit Pistons have hired Grizzlies executive Ed Stefanski as a senior advisor responsible for overhauling the franchise’s basketball operations, league sources told ESPN. Stefanski will assess the current front office, and oversee the process of hiring a GM and coach.

Stefanski played in the NBA in the 70s. He has over 20 years of front office experience, having previously worked in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Toronto, and most recently Memphis. 

The hiring of Stefanski gives a clear tie to Dwane Casey for the head coaching job -- Stefanski was part of the front office that initially hired Casey in Toronto.
