They said we couldn't, they said we wouldn't. Guess what? We just did. The Boston Celtics have officially attracted a star in free agency and that man will be Al Horford who has decided to join the Celtics over his former team, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Washington Wizards

Horford will sign a 4 year, $113 million dollar deal with Boston and is an instant upgrade to a front court that has lacked the talent to compete in the East since the Celtics had Kevin Garnett. He averaged 15.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game last season and was a member of the Eastern Conference All-Star Team. With Horford coming to Boston, the Celtics now look like a prime destination for stars in the East and his signing could influence Kevin Durant. Durant and Horford reportedly have interest in playing together and Adrian Wojnarowski reports that KD wanted to bring Horford to Oklahoma City.

Coincidentally, the Celtics have been meeting with Kevin Durant during the time Al Horford broke news that he would become a Celtic, so it'll be interesting to hear how that meeting ends up going. But back to Horford, he becomes the second All-Star on the team next to Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics can now potentially pitch forming a big-3 to Kevin Durant or another super star next summer.

Brad Stevens hasn't had the opportunity to coach a complete big man like Horford, and I'm sure he'll be excited to finally get one of the top big men in the league on his squad. After finishing 5th in the East last season, the Celtics look primed for improvement. Could KD still come to Boston? We'll find out soon. But regardless of landing Durant, this is a huge day for the Celtics franchise and an exciting moment for Celtic fans around the globe.
